Pet Grief: 7/10 Says the NME
English indie/alternative magazine, the NME (New Musical Express), as part of their weekly reviews of new releases, put Pet Grief through its paces.
Stephen Worthy, a seasoned journalist, gave another one of the NME's tough, rigorous and thorough reviews. Staying true to the NME philosophy of being inept, the review is not particularly insightful or full of depth,
but here it is none-the-less:
"You don't have to be Cracker* to spot the clues to The Radio Dept's state of mind when naming their second album 'Pet Grief'.
The two years since their debut 'Lesser Matters' made NME's Top 10 albums of 2004, these Swedes have changed line-up and been dumped by their label. Is it any wonder, then, that 'Pet Grief' is awash with
melancholy - a sad haven for lyrics about betrayal, lost love and crushing disappointment?
So how come all this gloom makes such addictive listening? It's down to the music. Pet Shop Boys (Pet Grief'), New Order ('A Window') and My Bloody Valentine (the near joyful fuzz'n'swell of 'Every Time') are obvious references. Amid all the darkness, shines a bright light."
Stephen Worthy
Hmmm..
Not too sure what to make of that. Ooh, also for those that
don't know "Cracker*", is a reference to a British TV detective drama. Think Sherlock
Holmes, but based in the early 90s. That may improve your ability to understand that review.

The Radio Dept. visit Peru
The Band enjoyed a successful period in Peru, where they teamed up the shoegaze outfit, Resplandor, for a one-off display of their musical prowess for their south
American fans.
There are some great photos of the show available courtesy of this flickr page (here).
Those pictures were taken by hard-core shoegaze and Radio Dept fan: amnesico / Amnesic_kid
You may notice in some of those pictures that there was alot of camcorder and bootlegging action going on during the Peru show. The products of the recorded footage can be found on Youtube.

It's a lazy skank, high on petrol fumes, Scottish lager and cream tea. This autumn the Dept. will start recording their third album in Berlin and various South American cities, such as Lima and Sao Paolo.

Sowing Seeds Was A Great Success!
The hour: 7pm, The place: Old street - London, The streets: Invaded by shoegaze fans.
This was the scene just before the Legion opened their doors and allowed the long queue that had formed outside, to filter into the venue.
Alot of effort had been put into making the venue ready for a special night.
Balloons, glitter, flowers & moody lighting made the venue look like a cover from a 'My Bloody Valentine' or 'Ride' album.
Playing on the big screen above the stage was 70's psychedelic films and the DJ was playing 'Souvlaki' by 'Slowdive'
Later than planned, Fields took the stage and played a shoegaze come folk brand of psychedelic rock. They were followed by French band, 'Cyann and Ben'.
Cyann and Ben played alot of classics from their early EP's and produced a sound similar to bands like 'Sonic Youth' and 'Mogwai'.
Somewhat later than planned, infact the only down point about the night, was that the Radio Dept. got on stage incredibly late.
They played a solid set. Ewan, Messy Enough & Why Won't You Talk About It? received great cheers from the crowd.
The show ended at about 1am, a full 2 hours late, which meant that some fans had to leave early (to get the last trains/buses).
Overall, the night was a success.

Marie Antoinette
The award winning Director, Sofia Coppola, has written and directed the new smash film "Marie Antoinette".
The film stars Kirsten Dunst and is a modern twist on the classic tale of the ill-fated 18th centuary French aristocrat.
Why does this concern the Radio Dept. ?
Well remarkably The Radio Dept. will be featured on the official film soundtrack
An interesting development as it goes against the Radio Dept. policy of not doing something that could possibly increase their audience
